We finished hiking the Continental Divide Trail on Wednesday, Sept. 8, around 4:15 pm. I’m still processing my feelings about the experience and will write more sometime in the next week. But I was able to do the math for the trip and came up with the following statistics:

Start date: April 15, 2021
End date: Sept. 8, 2021 (plus five days making up missed miles)

Total days on the trail: 151 days
Days hiking and neros: 123
Days resting (zero days): 28

Average miles hiked per day: 18
Average speed: 1.83 mph, includes meals and breaks
Average hours hiked per day: 9.25

Pairs of shoes: 6 (Beth); 5 (John)
Pounds lost: 10 (Beth); 20-25 (John)

Injuries: Shin splints (Beth); shin splints and blisters from hell (John)

Soooo...after 5 months of being with you, we can't help wondering how the 'backfill' sections of the trail have gone what you missed have gone; what reflections you have; and where next for the winter. Your Faithful Supporters are wondering still. Locally, the leaves are falling in Boone, hickory nuts are raining down on our roof, and fall is in the air. Peace and be well as you transition back into this realm, no doubt changed by the trail time. JA

If you find a few gray hairs, trim them off. If lots of gray hair is coming in at a faster rate, go to a salon and get your hair dyed to match the color that it was when you were younger.

You can also use a DIY hair dye, but it can be difficult to get a quality dye job on your own if you’ve never done it before.
