Our first library encounter of the tour! Today we visited Meyersdale Public Library in Meyersdale, PA. We were greeted by Betty and Cindi at the main desk and told them a bit about our trip. They told us they see a lot of cyclists coming in from the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) trail, to use the computers, read newspapers, and get information. We were also able to talk with Library Director Terri Foster, Archivist Jennifer Hurl, and Archives Assistant Carolyn McKinney in detail about The Pennsylvania Room, an incredible genealogy and history resource for residents and non-residents interested in researching southeast Pennsylvania. Currently they are involved in a project to digitize local newspapers, VHS tape, and some oral histories, creating online access to valuable genealogical resources. Terri also told us a bit about upcoming programing, including Summer Quest and an upcoming visit from a Civil War author.
It was a steep climb back to the GAP trail but well worth the trip. Thanks to all at Meyersdale Public Library!!
